About
The Chieftain is the official school newspaper of Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Florida. The staff is made up of 10th-12th graders, all who are trained to be excellent journalists, to report the truth and inform the masses.
Jared Sanchez is a Sophomore at Chamberlain High School. He loves sports, both watching and playing them. He loves music of all kinds and especially singing. He is a second-year member of Act 1 Chorus. Jared wrestles and plays tennis for Chamberlain. Jared is not the greatest writer in the world(as you will soon find out), but he is dedicated to his work and is ready and willing to improve. He strives to make good grades in school and most of the time he succeeds. He can be reached at jsanchez@chieftainonline.com
Danielle Sanchez is a Senior in CAPS here at Chamberlain High School. This year for the Chieftain, she is the Opinion Editor and is ecstatic about that. She’s a member of Idlewild Baptist Church and loves running into Mrs. Jones there. She loves her family and her friends almost more than life itself and that includes her two dogs, Rascal and Skippy. She is obsessed with the Tampa Bay Rays and always makes sure to catch the game. She can be reached at dsanchez@chieftainonline.com
Delaney Parsons is a Senior at Chamberlain and is Graphics Editor for the Chieftain and yearbook this school year. She loves art, music, journalism and speaking her mind. She has a creative, spontaneous way of thinking that sometimes it gets her in trouble, but most of the time its a good thing. Delaney’s favorite color is purple and this is her first year working on. Newspaper/Yearbook staff. She loves solving issues and discovering what goes on behind the scenes here at Chambo’. She is extremely exited to design graphics and pages and already has ideas lined up for the cover of our 2010-2011 yearbook!
Annie Vranish is a Sophomore and a staff writer for the Chieftain. A few years ago, she traded in her 2ND degree black belt in Taekwondo for non stop singing. She is part of Mayor’s Youth Corps, a city run community service program for teens and a City of Tampa television show called From The Corps, which basically means she’s really busy. Most of her closet is made up of American Eagle and she loves a good shopping day at Target. She is very excited for her first year on the staff and would appreciate any feedback.
Lesley Whiddon is a sophomore and proud staff writer for the Chieftain. In school, she loves singing in Act I. At home, the perfect night consists of a terrible storm, warm clothing, and a good movie with plenty of junk food. Previously a newspaper editor, she loves investigating and getting all “da detes” on the latest inside scoop. Lesley is looking forward to two more years of Chieftain success.
Will Shaffer is a sophomore and a staff writer for the Chieftain. He thoroughly enjoys writing and is looking forward to contributing to the Chieftain. In his personal time Shaffer enjoys sky diving, making stir-fry, and listening to musical works of art, such as Death Cab For Cutie, Enter Shikari and Blind Pilot. He once killed an Elk with nothing more than a shoelace and the book Fight Club. He is well respected among the political community and often referred to as daddy by many unnameable senators. He scoffs in the face of danger (unless it involves cockroaches), and rather than solve his problems he lives with them for fun. But mainly he is looking forward to writing with Chieftain.
Kelsey Sierra is a sophomore a. She plays for The Lady Chief’s varsity volleyball team. Kelsey is the assistant features editor and writer for the Chieftain. Her great love for journalism is sure to benefit the newspaper this year. She likes french fries dipped in ice cream, funny people, and the feeling of three of her favorite songs coming on the radio in a row. She’s still checking the mail for her Hogwarts acceptance letter, and always makes a wish at 11:11.
An overachiever to say the least, being on staff for Chieftain this year is only one of Kelly Smith’s numerous commitments to Chambo for the 2010-2011 school year. When she isn’t flooded with AP or honors homework, she can be found beasting it up on the softball field for the Lady Chiefs or Team FLA . If she has a moment to spare in between school and softball practices, which is usually literally one moment, she loves to sleep or hangout with her friends (if, by then, they haven’t forgotten that she exists.) However, she still manages to be fun and outgoing on top of all the stress that her life brings. She can be reached at: ksmith@chieftainonline.com.
Nadie Rae Saladino grew up in Tampa, Florida and is a Sophomore. Her mother is a veterinarian, and Saladino is almost positive she got her complete love of animals from her.
Saladino has taken dance classes at her aunt’s studio, Centerstage Dance Academy, in Carrollwood since she was two years old and is on the competition team there. Saladino attends Christ Community Church and volunteers at Tampa General Hospital during the summer. She has so many quotable statements Mr. Welsch is jealous, and a sarcastic but humorous personality, that fuels her constant laughter.
